Menstrual cramps are usually caused by uterine contractions that happen just before or during periods. They result from mild to severe pain in lower abdomen of females.


Some of the common symptoms of Menstrual Cramps include:

  • Heavy bleeding or clotting

  • Vomiting, nausea and interfere with your daily activities

  • It usually doesn’t go away using simple pain killers

Causes of Menstrual Cramps could be one or some of the following:

  • Fibroids - These are non-cancerous growths of uterus mostly seen in reproductive age groups but need to be taken care on time

  • Adenomyosis - In this inner lining of uterus gets embedded in other layers of uterus. Again common in reproductive and Perimenopause age groups

  • Uterine Polyps - Commonly seen in reproductive age groups

  • Hormonal Imbalance - Usually seen in Perimenopause or menopause transition in females and in young girls who have attained first period.

  • Cervical and Endometrial Cancers - Mostly in Perimenopause and postmenopause age groups.
